Riviera del Brenta: Among Villas, Mills, and Parks

The Riviera del Brenta is a region that connects the city of Padua to the Venice Lagoon: a flourishing place, both culturally and naturally, which develops around the Brenta Canal and its natural riverbed rich in flora and fauna.

The Riviera is a perfect place for a relaxing excursion, in contact with flourishing nature and the treasures of the area. A rich area, chosen in the 16th century by Venetian nobles as a holiday resort, today the Riviera is teeming with historic villas, green areas, gardens, monumental parks.

From the Mills of Dolo to the rococo and 16th-century villas, from bike routes in the countryside to local restaurants offering local specialties, often the result of a mix between the river and the land (like the excellent risi e bisi, fish fry, or the famous 'moèche fritte'), the Riviera is the perfect place to leave behind thoughts and worries and rediscover a rural nature, with its jewels perfectly embedded in a frame that changes color with each season.

The Venetian villas of Brenta

Among the pearls of the area, we can mention the Venetian villas: splendid 16th-century residences nestled in their respective agricultural parks, built by renowned architects (like Andrea Palladio) in the times of the Serenissima and frescoed by the best artists of the time. Built in a classicist style, with Italian gardens and lavish pools surrounded by statues, the villas were the residences of the local lords and Venetian nobles, who during the summer went to the countryside to visit their land holdings and relax with the mild climate of the hinterland.

Today the Venetian villas, with their white facades standing out in the surrounding agricultural and river area, form a beautiful route that can be visited by bike, through organized tours, or with a relaxing and suggestive cruise on the Brenta that will allow you to admire from the water the facades of these beautiful classic homes. On request, visits can also be organized inside private villas, which are generally closed to the public.

Sports in the Riviera del Brenta

Discovering the rural and river setting of the Brenta with the company of the mountains in the background can be more appealing, with a bike tour or another sports experience.

For the more trained, there is the possibility to rent a bike (or bring your own from home) and face the wonderful trails of the Euganean Hills, suitable for everyone thanks to the presence of routes with various degrees of difficulty and slope.
Or you can discover the beauty of the river with a boat or canoe navigation experience to do on your own, or even, let yourself be enchanted by the colors of nature and discover the patrician villas on foot, or with horse rides.

All this is always in close contact with unique flora and fauna, which can be best discovered through the paths that wind along the riviera. In fact, when the tide goes down, the lagoon area - rich in birds and a thriving vegetation - reveals its colors and its secrets to its visitors, rewarding them for every effort made.
